What Happens Doesn’t Stay

Having just celebrated Mom’s 71st birthday, we were all quickly taken back to this time last year when we surprised her in Vegas with 25 special friends and family for a weekend of hullabaloo together.

Reminded me that you don’t need a Hollywood budget to make for an unforgettable moment.  But you do need thoughtful detail  and meaningful moments.

As we know by now our mantra about “first impressions being everything”,  we shuttled the whole gang out to the Las Vegas airport to surprise Mom with an oh-so-appropriate Showgirl welcome.  Dad appreciated that detail, too!
It’s not a birthday weekend in Vegas without a visit to the Spa.  Go the extra mile and rent a private penthouse suite for your group’s spa-licious morning.  In all our visits to spas over the years, this private suite made it possible, for the first time, to actually enjoy one another’s company in between rubdowns and foot fantasies.  We even ordered the hotel’s famous NY-style pizza en suite for lunch.
Each night’s dinner carried a theme.  Opening night featured great burgers and shakes at our hotel’s burger bar – so we ran amuck with the COW theme – each guest got a “color your own” robot cow as their placecard.  Free ice cream float for the winner!  Saturday night’s official birthday dinner at LAVO (Italian for “bath”) featured Italian-spoken birthday tributes, a family-style Italian feast, and placecards of natural soaps on marble soapdishes – with guest names hand-carved into the soaps.

We took advantage of this rare opportunity of having such a special group of people together – and had our weekend photographer Claire organize a photo shoot one morning – complete with masks and other fun props that these “party animals” had been greeted with upon arrival.
Pack your bag and choose a destination for your next special occasion – embrace everything “local” about it – tap into the homegrown sights and scenes, and you’re on your way to being deemed a mighty fine party planner.  Mom always was a bit biased, though.
