Welcome to LA!

hooping.orgWelcome to Los Angeles!

It always seems that right before pilot season LA gets an influx of new starry eyed residents looking to make their dreams come true in the mysterious and surreal Hollywood. I was one of those starry eyed transplants at one time, and I feel it only right to pass down my wisdom onto others coming this season to the sunny but sometimes harsh city.

One: Remain grounded and focused. You will meet a ton of people in LA some great, some not so great, all with a goal or agenda. Remember who you are and why you came here. Don’t get swayed by jaded people or any small failures along the way. It is only a failure if you let it stop you, otherwise it is a lesson.

Two: Be gracious. Too many people get too focused on their own careers they forget to look at the person in front of them as a human being also filled with feelings, hopes and dreams. Be the person that everyone remembers as being gracious and kind as well as talented.

Three: Get out there. You can’t just hope to have your dreams come true and they will magically be put into action. And that daydream of getting discovered while walking down the street will 99% not happen. So get out there for events in your community, find people with similar interests who can lead you in the right directions. Make connections.

Four:Be current. It is easy to get lazy and not know what is happening in your industry. It is part of your job to be knowledgeable. You might not be getting paid for all of those articles you read, but they will pay off in the end.

Five: Enjoy and give yourself a break. You just made an amazing decision to go after your dreams. Try to be gracious, grounded, focused, active and knowledgeable in your career so that you can hit the ground running. But stop and smell the roses, because this isn’t just Hollywood anymore- it’s your home.

I hope I’m thought of as not just a showbiz personality, but as someone who has lived a life and who has hopefully made a contribution to something along the way- someone who is a human being as well as an actress.
