Things can get a little grueling when I’m out working in Los Angeles. From the photoshoots to the workshops, and motivational speaking events, it turns my few days of being in such a beautiful city into a non-stop work trip. In order to keep myself grounded and my mind at ease, I always make sure to practice self-care. Usually, people don’t think twice before putting self-care on the back burner but we should realize how crucial it is for our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. I’m here to share with you my favorite things to do for self-care in Los Angeles.
The first and most important part of self-care is to begin the day of nurturing the health of our mind, body, and soul, through unplugging any electronic devices. Even after a hard day at work, we turn to our phone as a form of relaxation or unwinding. Starting your day by unplugging from technology, ignoring all of the social media alerts or messages, and focusing on your well-being is one of the ways to practice self-care.
Being from Alabama, I love coming out to Los Angeles and visiting the beach. Most importantly, I love taking time to have a mini-meditation session while out on the shore. One of my favorite beaches to visit is Amarillo Beach in Malibu. The beautiful scenery and calming waves keep you far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Practicing deep breathing, while focusing on the awareness of your body, thoughts, and feelings helps to keep a clear mind and prepares you for the challenges ahead.
The best way to savor my moments of alone time is through getting hydrafacials. I love visiting SKIN by Carla for my hydrafacial treatments. Cleaning, exfoliating, and infusing my skin with serums allows for one of the most relaxing experiences to help alleviate stress. Vacuuming out pores while simultaneously pushing in potent activities help moisture, brighten, and plump areas for a cleaner and fresher you.
When I’m working hard in Los Angeles and very much missing home, I head off to Sunset Ranch in Hollywood for some horseback riding. While riding up in the Hollywood Hills and to the top of Mount Hollywood, you get to see the most unforgettable and breathtaking views. When I’m back on my farm in Alabama, I use horseback riding at least three times a week as my escape from reality. I use these moments to personally reflect on the challenges I’ve faced while also embracing the simplicity of life.
Self-care isn’t only all about activities that help you relax or energize your body, it’s also about eating the healthiest and best way that you can. I always like to eat things with minimal and clean ingredients. I usually head to my backyard to grab delicious fruits and vegetables to help bring me back to life, but when I’m in the city I make sure to visit Cafe Gratitude. Their plant-based menu is the perfect mix of various vegetables and savory flavors.
To end a day full of self-care or to bring self-care at the end of a busy day, I love being able to lay around and relax with a perfectly scented candle. I always have my very own scented candles from the Matt Mathews collection handy. My favorite scent to vibe out to is my “You Are Enough!” candle filled with a delicious apple and maple aroma.
The main thing about self-care is that it requires one choosing to do it. Although it may be difficult for you to take a break from your crazy work-life or put things on hold, it’s worth it to lose a few hours instead of losing your mind. I hope that you get to take the time you need for yourself and enjoy learning the things that I do for self-care.
