SUPER CUTE SIPS! HELLO KITTY GRAND CAFÉ NOW SERVES WINE!
It’s the New Year and if like me, you’re desperately looking for something light and frothy to start the year off, I’ve got the find! The first-ever HELLO KITTY GRAND CAFÉ. Sanrio, the Tokyo-based kawaii lifestyle brand that brought the world Hello Kitty, has another facet to the fictional character’s empire: Hello Kitty Grand Café now serving wine and signature cocktails at its flagship restaurant in Irvine, California.
What’s inside Hello Kitty?
The café opened three months ago, taking a prime location in the Irvine Spectrum Center.
So, what’s on the super cute sips wine list? The “highly anticipated” café is debuting sparkling and still wines in rosè, white and red, aptly named: Hello Kitty Sparkling Rosè, Hello Kitty Pinot Grigio, Hello Kitty Prosecco, as well as the real stuff, Piper Heidsieck Cuvee Brut Champagne – to keep us sane.
Equally important, to pair with your Hello Kitty wines, there are afternoon tea favorites like mini-donuts (served warm) mini- cakes in the shape of your favorite Sanrio characters (or your Avatars) and not only that, real uptown cocktails! If you opt for the real Champagne – what (?) – and miss out on Hello Kitty’s namesake wines? – stay clear of the cute sweets. Better, you can find savory sandwiches (to pair with the Champagne) by making reservations to dine in The Bow Room.
For design, the café is decked out with all things Hello Kitty in the “cute sophisticated” style of kawaii. I’m betting that even though Marie Kondo can definitely be described as cute, she’d sooner be in a hoarder’s den than in a kawaii-designed den.
A peek inside The Bow Room
In the private dining room called “The Bow Room,” which requires reservations, you can relax with afternoon tea and most importantly, evening Cat Cocktail service.
About those Hello Kitty Cocktails
Let’s get to those cocktails immediately: On select nights, again in the Bow Room, there’s – wait for it – “You Had Me at Hello” (made with Cachaca, Aperol, Sherry, lemon and pineapple juices); and “Whisker Sour” (combining Whiskey, China China, lemon and Aquafaba, the vegan version of egg whites.
Who has the first birthday coming up? Let’s reserve the Bow Room!
