Spring is in the Air!

The rains are subsiding, and there are hints that spring is truly on the way.  Soon to be followed by the long, lazy days of summer…. ahhh.  Now if Californians dare complain about the brutal winter there will be mobs of angry East Coast protesters, so we don’t dare!  BUT even in the land of sun there is something exciting and rejuvenating about the arrival of spring.  It is a time of renewal.  A time to dust off the cobwebs on your BBQ and put away your wool blanket.  A time to explore fresh new colors, plant flowers and of course prep your outdoor living area.
Spring is synonymous with outdoor living, and there is no better place to do that than California.  The love of indoor/outdoor living is ingrained in our very being.  And we are fortunate enough to have the ability to create outdoor living areas where we can dine, play, relax, swim, garden, read or even sleep under the stars.  So it’s time to get geared up for spring and start perfecting your outdoor Shangri-la.
Here are some outdoor living pictures to inspire…
I have coveted these vintage blue chairs for years… perfection.

The elephant stools make this pool.

You can get away with fearless color outdoors
Cindy Crawford’s house in Malibu, designed by Michael Smith- defines the word “ocean view”.
These vintage outdoor chairs add character to any outdoor space.

Outdoor fireplaces are key and create a cozy environment for entertaining.

And then there is the screened in porch (sigh).  Look at the light… (and the vintage rocking chair)
And I will leave you with this Long Island Cottage, which speaks for itself.

Design Tip:
Take advantage of your outdoor space, whether you have a sprawling lawn or a tiny balcony.  There is opportunity everywhere.   Plant some herbs in your Kitchen window; buy a hummingbird feeder or a vintage chair.  The smallest changes can turn an ordinary outdoor space into a sanctuary.  And keep the windows open and let in that California sunshine!
