Put your personal stamp on your Socal home!

Whenever I start a new home project, I always consider the paint color.  Paint can immediately set the tone and add the depth, warmth and personality that is crucial to take a Plain Jane home to the next level.  Recently I spoke with Erik, at my favorite paint store; Farrow & Ball, for his take on the latest trends…

As In-Home Colour Consultants for Farrow & Ball, we provide expert colour advice working in situ to curate a palette specific to your space, light, and lifestyle. Trends in colour and application can be translated to maximize impact, minimize imperfections, and optimize the effects rendered.

The clear, bright light of LA provides the perfect foil for everything from the most subtle range of tones to the most indulgent colour experience. Three key trends have made their mark here as our consultants work with clients to help put a personal stamp on their Southern California homes.

ONE COLOUR
A bold yet simple approach to visually opening up your space, using a single colour on both walls and trim creates a feeling of openness and simplicity (and a perfect backdrop for art). Using a slightly paler tone for the ceiling heightens the effect.
Soft whites (like Cornforth White) come alive in the clear light of LA, while darker colours (like the deep teal luxuriance of Inchyra Blue) reveal all of their complexity.

FROM NEUTRAL TO BOLD / PINK
A trend that has survived its initial turn in the spotlight is pink. From the softest peachy blush of our Blostma wallpaper to the vibrancy and candor of Nancy’s Blushes, pink tones can serve as the perfect backdrop for a wide range of decorating styles and offer a unique and refreshing change from more predictable options.

LIGHT PAINTED FLOORS
The long tradition of painting floors is back in style, and speaks to the LA lifestyle of sun-drenched rooms and open-air living. Choosing a soft tone (like Slipper Satin, my favourite floor) creates a clean, bright space with natural light reflected back up onto the walls and ceiling. From Venice beach shack chic to Belair manor style, light painted floors are a natural choice for your LA home.

From walls to ceilings to floors – don’t forget – paint color can make for an instant change to uplift a space or transform it to a more chic contemporary atmosphere.
