Product, Product, Product:

It’s all about product these days. It seems every designer is coming out with a product line, hmmm? I’m still waiting for my collection to debut….but joking aside I do think that designers are the perfect candidates to create product. After all we are constantly shopping and hence realize what is missing in the market. I can’t tell you how many times I get stuck during a project trying to find that perfect lamp shade or vintage chair. So what is there to do but design it yourself! I love when designers come out with a line that embodies their aesthetic. It is fascinating to see their interiors represented in furniture, fabric and wall coverings… truly inspiring. Two designers that I think did a superb job with their product lines are Katie Ridder and Peter Dunham
Here are a few pictures of Katie’s interiors. Her use of color and material layering is so unique. Her work seems bohemian, preppy and traditional all at the same time.

I can’t get enough of her wallpapers and fabrics. Her style translates beautifully…

Peter Dunham is another designer that has parlayed his creativity into an unbelievable furniture and accessory collection. Here are some of his interiors

His furniture has that same British / Indian colonial feel but is casual and relaxed at the same time. His eye for vintage pieces and accessories is unparalleled.

Design Tip:
When you get stuck trying to find that perfect piece, take a look at some designer’s websites. You will be surprised how many offer pieces for sale. And most of them are pretty spectacular. If this fails you can take a shot at making a piece yourself… sound too complicated? Hire a designer!
