If the thought of wallpaper takes you back to your grandmother’s house, you are in need of wallpaper rehab my friends. Wallpaper has evolved by leaps and bounds these days, and I simply cannot get enough of it myself. Paint has its uses, of course, but a whole house in just paint becomes very one dimensional and frankly, boring. There is nothing like a little wallpaper to add some color, texture and to give a room a surprising pop.
There are so many wallpaper applications and choices that it is mind numbing, I know. So here are a few images and tips to help you in your wallpaper quest.
I am a big fan of wallpaper on the ceiling. Especially in a room with white walls, this adds an element of interest and surprise. And in a bedroom, how fun to lie in bed and stare up at the ceiling…
If you have a vaulted or arched ceiling wallpaper can really pack a punch. If there is a noticeable break from wall to ceiling you can paper only the walls for a dramatic effect. If your walls are curved, however, try papering the walls and ceiling for a continual flow.
Wallpaper in small areas, such as a powder room, is a must. Have fun, and be bold… the powder room can handle it!
Got a big room? A geometric print adds texture, but is not overwhelming. Mount your artwork as you normally would, this will make the room feel more relaxed.
Wallpaper is not just for the wall either. Take remnant pieces and frame them for great artwork, or you can even make pen holders and book covers.
And for those who are not convinced about wallpaper yet, welcome to the world of sea grass! Sea grass is a wonderful natural fiber textured paper that is rich and sophisticated minus the pattern. Use sea grass in a bedroom or any area where you want dimension and concentrated color, you will not be disappointed.
Wallpaper is not the enemy anymore… it is the perfect companion to any space. There is every type of pattern and color available, so before you limit yourself to paint only, give wallpaper a shot. Remember, you can start small…. and before you know it you will become a wallpaper addict like me!
