Office Envy

As I wallow around in old wallpaper samples and have to play hopscotch over the tiles laying on my floor I wonder what it would be like to have a fabulous office? My office has always played second fiddle to my house and the wonderful projects I am lucky enough to do for clients. But I realize this could be a mistake. Whether you have a desk in the corner or a penthouse floor, the office is a place where ideas come to life. It is your home away from home, and should be treated with respect. The office is a place that should be comfortable, creative and allow you to do what you do best. I am a strong believer that you are more productive and happier when you are inspired by your surroundings.

Here are some offices that actually make me want to get up and go to work… Notice how all of these offices are warm, comfortable and cozy. Try to avoid a corporate feel, people tend to feel more relaxed and creative in a home environment

Now here is a cubical I wouldn’t mind being stuck in

Now if you don’t have an office space, do not fret. Home offices can be just as creative.

I am in utter awe of this beautiful work area in a small New York apartment

Simple and clean…

This interior designers office is right up my alley. I love the idea of curtains to hide the bookshelf when things get a little messy.

Ahhhh, this is just too great! What colors…

The corkboard or burlap wall is a definite must

Now if space is really tight, remember that you don’t have to have an entire room designated as the office. A working space can be set up anywhere, in a hall, the entry… hey even a bedroom like this picture

And this versatile piece doubles as a bar, work space and even a baby changing table!

Design Tip:

It is important to carve out a space for yourself that is all yours, where you feel comfortable, inspired and can be creative. And don’t feel that you need a big fancy office, any space will do… just make it your own.
