Today’s modern bride (and persuaded groom) likes to take things to the next level. Not content with handmade favors or donuts while waiting at the valet, what she really wants is to take that fabulous dress for one more spin. Photographically, that is. Never mind princess-for-a-day…..most brides would like to be almost-unreal-fairytale-princess on this second day of shooting!
For these After-The-Wedding shoots, which have a variety of monikers, she can now stop worrying about her guests, let her hair down, literally and figuratively….forget demure!….and be the star of her very own Vogue-inspired photoshoot (even 5′ 4″ fictional Carrie Bradshaw got to play bridal dressup for them.)
Contrary to popular belief, the dress doesn’t have to get ruined at all. Now that 200 people aren’t waiting for her to walk down the aisle, the bride-that-was isn’t quite so precious about it. The girl unwilling to tip-toe on damp grass on the wedding day now doesn’t seem to mind lying in it.
As a photographer, I feel that my client now trusts me implicitly and will give me free rein! My clients LOVE it…sitting in a boat, halfway up a tree, lying on a beach…..whatever wonderful locations I can find, they’re up for it. With great direction from their photographer, everybody can look as though they should grace the cover of a magazine. Adding a variety of accessories might even make the viewer think, ‘ Wait a minute, is she really wearing the same dress in every shot? ”
