A majority of my closet cleanout appointments are focused on styling my client in what he or she already owns. With a few simple tweaks, I’m able to make old pieces more modern. The easiest way to revamp your old clothes is to tailor your jeans. This trick is a fashion hack for any age, gender, and style.
A current trend is a cropped pant that hits slightly above your ankle bone. Whereas in the past we kept our jeans long to tuck into boots, we‘re now opting for a shorter hem to wear with sneakers, flats, or any type of shoe.
There are two ways to go about cropping your jeans. Option one is to visit your local tailor. Option two is my personal favorite – grab a pair of scissors! A raw or unfinished hem is extremely popular and did you know you can achieve that very look yourself? No fashion skills needed, just thirty seconds of your time. Cut the bottom of your jeans and use your fingers to pull out loose threads. After one wear your jeans will have a perfect unfinished hem.
Don’t be too quick to dismiss your favorite garments as “too old” or “outdated.” With a few simple tailoring tricks, you’ll not only save your favorite pieces, but you’ll also save money!
