Venice is a hip, hyperlocal and beach-driven neighborhood. It offers a lifestyle complete with bike rides along the beach, boardwalk culture, and premier surfing. Many people don’t know this, but it’s a mix of nine neighborhoods with their own distinct attributes. The architecture is as unique as it’s creative residents. Whether you’re after a beach style cape cod home, a bohemian bungalow, or an architectural masterpiece…Venice has it all.
Sleep at: Shutters on the Beach.
I recommend this hotel located in Santa Monica…but still just a bike ride along the shore from Venice, if you want to be on the beach and in posh surroundings. The limited hotels inside Venice proper are much more laid back.
Breakfast: The Butcher’s Daughter is a plant-based restaurant set in a farm house style setting. I crave their breakfast burritos and avocado toast.
Lunch: Rose Cafe Includes indoor and outdoor dining with a beer garden, a full market and bakery, Verve Coffee bar, and 40-foot cocktail bar. I’m a big fan of Shakshouka topped off with a Rose Mimosa
Dinner: Gjelina Hot spot for seasonal New American cuisine presented in a rustic-chic dining room. Star sitings are quite possible here! Pizza, all their meat and vegetable dishes…you can’t go wrong. Just make reservations way in advance.
In the mood for sushi? Shima. Feels like you are eating in someone’s cool home. They use brown rice…gotta try it!
Put on your bathing suit, shorts & grab a towel and go to the beach. Hit up the beach by the Venice pier for less crowds, clean water and a chill atmosphere. Walk along the Venice Pier and watch the surfers. Then lay your towel on the beach and catch a few zzzz’s. Rent a bike at the pier – take a ride along beach path along the ocean. You can head north to Santa Monica or if feeling adventurous you can ride south to Manhattan Beach. For those who want to re-live rock n roll history and love Jim Morrison – check out this bike ride along the root to discover fan favorite spots.
Stroll along Abbot Kinney – The best shopping/food block in all of Los Angeles!
Alternate Sleep Suggestion: Viceroy
A stylish Hollywood glamour vibe with interiors designed by Kelly Wearstler.
Jam of the week is a standout! – levain toast/ ricotta/ jam
Lunch: Venice Ale House
Classic central beach beer pub right on the busy, exciting boardwalk. People watching at it’s best.
Best Italian food in LA! Cacio e pepe is my favorite. Also book well in advance.
And for a touristy kitsch venue, try: C&O
I prefer the outdoor courtyard. Get ready for hearty Italian meals coupled by a lot of singing and drinking!
Play: Walk through the Venice Beach Canals. One of the access points is at Pacific and 27th Avenue.
Shop: Finish off shopping on Abbot Kinney. One visit is never enough!
Stop in: Mystic Book Store for a spiritual reading – try it, it’s fun. They can run as short as 15 minutes.
Drinks right before sunset at the rooftop at: Hotel Erwin
