Oregon does not immediately conjure up Summer beach images but after my recent trip to Cannon Beach, I've been converted. When you come upon Cannon Beach and its vast strip of sand for the first time, it is an incredibly memorable experience. The gorgeous Haystack Rock dominates the endless misty beach and is truly awe-inspiring. Most people think about Lewis and Clark ending their expedition at the edge of the Pacific, or the Native American Tillamook tribe from the past living along the coast, or the Puffins and sea birds swarming the rock. I, upon seeing Haystack Rock, immediately thought of the Goonies. One childhood epic movie, and Cannon Beach is forever immortalized as a chase scene and pirate treasure.
I just got back from a cozy, beautiful week there. I loved experiencing the Pacific Northwest and waking up with such a fantastic view every morning. A quick plane flight, a short drive and you too can be converted. A picture is worth a thousand words and in this case you will see what I mean. And yes, I did rent the Goonies one night. Popcorn too.
The wonderful, luxurious hotel with sunken tubs, fireplaces and did I mention the view? The SurfSand Resort
Yummy Fireplace.
Best place for a beer. Cannon Beach Hardware. Their motto: Screw and Brew. Hardware store by day, bar all the time.
Cannon Beach is a year-round destination but Summer and Fall are the best times to go.
