As much as I want my clients to hoist dumbbells, toss medicine balls, sprint, jump and do push-ups in the sand every single workout, I also encourage them to try disciplines at the other end of the physical spectrum.
This only enhances and complements our gym workouts which ultimately gets results.
I suggest clients incorporate some form of stretching, like yoga or Pilates, as well as Qi gong, Wushu (a slow, deliberate form of martial arts), or even ballet.
Doing a different physical activity like that, even just once a week, will yield results for your overall fitness.
These forms of disciplines are great complements to the conditioning that we get in the gym, and they keep us connected and in tune with our bodies.
As a trainer, our job is to entice, encourage and extend the clients' physical boundaries, as well as create a physical community for them to thrive on.
